History

WELLS UNITED CHURCH

Wells United Church was formed in 1917 when two chapels in Union Street, Wells one Baptist and one Congregational merged together to form one United Church.  The church has also drawn in members from other denominations.  As well as practising both believers and infant baptism, the ministers alternate between the two traditions.

The current minister, the Rev Rowena Francis, comes from the URC tradition, but the church welcomes everyone.

The church hall, known as the Seager Hall after a former minister, is used by many different organisations in the town as well as a Friendship Club organised by the church itself.  Provision is made for children at the Sunday Morning service at 10.30 am and there are evening services on most Sundays, some united with the Methodist Church, and once a month there is a united service with other churches in the city and villages around organised by Christians Together in the Wells Area,
